A warm welcome on every path

Every Tuesday and Thursday morning, and on Saturday afternoons, small groups of Kilmarnock residents aged fifty and over set off from Dean Castle Country Park, the Bellfield Park paths, and the Irvine Valley greenway to walk, talk, and look out for one another.

Some joined us after a health scare. Some came because a GP or community link worker suggested it. Some simply moved to the area and found themselves alone. What they all found here was the same: a warm welcome, a pace that suits them, and a reason to get out the door.

Vibrant Health Advocates - Polaris has been running these walks for years, growing from a handful of neighbours into a recognised part of East Ayrshire's health and wellbeing landscape. We are not a fitness club and we are not a clinical programme — we are a community, rooted in Kilmarnock, built on the simple belief that moving together through the places you live is one of the most powerful things a person can do for their health.

What We Do

Built on three simple commitments

🥾

Guided Health Walks

Our trained walk leaders run regular, graded routes through Kilmarnock's parks and countryside so every member walks at the right pace for their fitness and mobility. No one is ever left behind or pushed beyond what feels good.

🤝

Real Community Connection

Loneliness among older adults is a serious health risk, and we take that seriously. Our walks are deliberately social — members share tea after the walk, celebrate milestones together, and many have formed friendships that extend well beyond our organised routes.

📋

Health-Informed Support

We work closely with East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership and local GP practices, accepting referrals and keeping our walk leaders trained in first aid, mental health awareness, and inclusive practice. Our approach is evidence-based and people-centred.
